Welcome to Joseph LeBlanc's Joomla development forum. This forum is primairly intended to discuss the development of components I've authored, such as the podcasting suite and Daily Message tutorial. Although I happily answer general questions about Joomla, you may get quicker answers by searching the Joomla forums.

Problems with packaging a component 10 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi Again !

Well the I've finished the component (in that it's working when I manually install it). I've followed the instructions in your book, for packaging it into a zip file for distribution but something is going wrong. I've tried installing it on both my local dev environment and a couple of my live sites on different hosts and got the same error in each case.

Code:

* Error! Could not find a Joomla! XML setup file in the package.
So far I've eliminated issues with zipping the files on a Mac (did by command line and also tried a win box) to no effect, checked the encoding on the XML file and still no joy. A search of the Joomla.org forums didn't help - so I'm wondering if you can shed some light on other things that can cause this problem. The zip file is at http://craigphillips.biz/downloads/easytable.zip if you want to look at it. Cheers

It's OK - I've found some XML errors and consistency issues (pointed out by IanMac & Ot2sen on the Joomla forums) - which just goes to show you shouldn't do XML while needing sleep!
