Hi.

I'm quite new to Joomla and slowly getting my head round it, i would like to use your podcast suite but i'm a little bit stuck, i have read some similar articles to my request but it still doesn't make sense !

What i am trying to do it create 5 different podcast genres, each genre will have it's own page with some news about what's new for that genre, then a podcast button which when clicked will only display podcasts of that genre.

Using your podcast suite, can i seperate the podcasts by genre even though all the files will be uploaded to the same directory ?

Also, how do i publish the podcast module to each individual page and make it only list the podcasts that match that genre ?

Thanks for using the suite! The way to accomplish what you're wanting is through the Section/Category system in Joomla. Each Joomla Category can be made into a separate podcast. Simply create a menu link to the Podcast Suite for each category you want to make into a podcast. This will generate links to your feeds for each category. (You won't be able to use the module for the separate category links.) If you want to create links to a listing of the articles themselves, make a link to the Content component with the Category Blog Layout.

Hi.

Thanks for getting back to me, took me a while to figure out how to create the sections and catagories but now that i have all is working like a dream just as you described, brilliant ! So, i have one other question or maybe it's a request ?

Is there any way that the code for the podcast suite can be modified so that when you click on a podcast to listen, it opens an external player so you can then browse the rest of the site without losing what you are listening to as at the moment, if you navigate away from the page the has the link to the podcast on you are listening to, the podcast will stop.

Also, is there anyway you can remove the "hideout xpsf player etc etc" as i think it would look better with just the play/pause, forward/reverse and volume buttons...

Many Thanks

Mark

You should be able to customize the player to do precisely what you want using the Custom HTML option under the Parameters panel in the backend. Unfortunately, I don't have a working example to share. I don't focus on the player aspect of this software as much as I do in generating the feed for iTunes. However, I believe there was a thread about doing popup windows on this forum from a while back, you might be able to find it using the search function.

Also, I recently updated the code for the suite here: http://www.jlleblanc.com/blogcategory/0/ The update should use the name of the podcast you're listening to in place of the "hideout xpsf player" message.

Hi.

Once again, thanks for getting back to me.

I'm getting closer to what i am looking for and after having a good search through the forums i came across this as a solution.

http://www.jlleblanc.com/option,com_fireboard/Itemid,70/func,view/id,1584/catid,5/limit,6/limitstart,6/

My problem now is that i have no idea what flash player to install as described by this post, i can get everything working except the "play in pop up" - it just opens a web page and says that the document is not found.

From what i can see it is trying to first open a media player which then opens an MP3 file within the pop up player.

I think the original flash player used in this example is not compatible with 1.5

I have no idea what flash player to install to get this working and i do understand that this an addition to your code but if you could please tell me i am on the right track as to why it doesn't work i would greatly appreciate it....

Many Thanks

Mark

Yes, you should be able to use a method like the one described in that post, although maybe not that specific player. The key is that you have to generate a page outside of the suite that holds the SWF object and loads the file. Then you set the link in the HTML Code area to open that page.
