External Linking Not Working 9 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hi all ...

I have everything working fine with both the RSS feed and the iTunes feed but cannot seem to get the external link function working.

The files I want to use are actually on my server but I don't want to have to put duplicate copies of the files on the server .. they are large files and in different subdirectories.

When I create the new file clip everything looks fine, I tell it to publish it in an article and the article shows up and I publish it, yet when I go back to manage clips it says the external link has not been published and it never shows in either the iTunes or RSS feed.

Here is one of the enclosure links I'm using ... I have to remove the URL and filename for my client's privacy but you'll get the idea

{enclose http://URL_REMOVED_FOR_PRIVACY/team/training/2009/10.2009/FILENAME_REMOVED_FOR_PRIVACY.mp3 100642244 audio/mpeg}

The metadata shows up in the manage clips area and the article IS published but it never shows in manage clips as published and it never shows up in either the iTunes feed or the RSS feed ...

The articles are published as public but the category, etc., is for registered users only and the feed is not published in the iTunes store ... it works great when using just a filename in the directory I created, but when trying to do it this way it doesn't work.

Any ideas? Am I missing something?

TIA!

It looks like there's a bug in the way the suite processes external URLs. I'm taking a look.

Great thank you ... right now I'm posting duplicate copies of the same files on the server because they are all in different directories and it's killing me with disk space as the files are like about 150MB each

I have a file I can send you to replace components/com_podcast/views/feed/view.raw.php. Shoot me an email at contact@jlleblanc.com and I'll send it over.

Here is the followup you requested:

When using a file from an external server, in my example an amazon s3 placed file, and inserting the new view.raw.php code, the local site's base URL is getting prefixed to the remote server.
    example: http://mysite.com/https://mybucket.s3.amazonaws.com/myfolder/myfile.mp3

Thank you again for your help on this!

I just tried this with the new file you sent and I'm still not getting it to work ... not sure what's wrong here ...

Dirs are set at 755, files are set at 644 (I tried 755 there too)

I use the full path to the files as if it were an external server (even though it's internal) and the code in the resulting article is blank so I entered:

{extract http://domain.com/fullpathtofile/filename.ext sizeinbytes audio/mpeg} (it's an mp3 file)

When I go to manage clips, it shows that it has meta info but is not published even though the article IS published and is public ... so in my instance the changes you made didn't fix the issue ...

So the result is that when I go to the RSS feed, the new file doesn't show up there and it also is not downloaded into iTunes either. As soon as I copy the file to the specified directory and do it that way it works fine (although the article is still blank and I have to insert the filename manually - not a big deal there) and shows in the regular RSS and iTunes both.

I DO appreciate your assistance though

Thank you!
